What documents do we receive? After you finish the online interview, we will mail you all of the documents you need to file your divorce — completely filled out and ready to sign. You will receive the following completed documents:
  • Washington Petition for the Dissolution of Marriage

How long does a Washington divorce take? The fastest you can complete a divorce in Washington is 90 days.  The DivorceWriter™ documents and instructions allow you to complete your divorce as quickly as is legally possible.

Do we have to go to Court? No.  In Washington state neither of you has to go to court, you complete your divorce by mail.  You both must sign the divorce papers, but you will not need to appear before a judge.

What is the process for filing our Washington Divorce?

Note: The general instructions presented here are for informational purposes, you will receive detailed easy-to-follow guidelines for filing your Washington divorce with your purchase.

STEP 1: Filing Your Petition

Review and sign the documents. Mail the filing fee and two copies of the following documents using the envelope provided:

  • Confidential Information Form
  • Petition for Dissolution of Marriage
  • Summons

STEP 2: Wait 90 days

Washington state requires you wait 90 days in a "cooling off" period before you file your Decree.

STEP 3 : Finalizing Your Divorce

After the 90 days have passed, you simply need to mail the decree and supporting documents to the court, as well as a $20 ex parte fee:

  • Decree of Dissolution
  • Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law
  • Final Parenting Plan*
  • Order of Child Support*

Usually within two weeks the judge will review and sign your Decree. Once your Decree is signed by the judge, your divorce is final.
